Matt is a founding partner of Hannaford Turner LLP. He specialises in a wide range of transactional shipping law areas including ship finance, newbuilding projects, acquisitions and joint ventures.
Matt has an enviable stable of clients including major banks, private equity funds and international ship owners and operators. He is also the go-to maritime counsel for a number of US and other international law firms when they are representing clients on shipping related projects. As a member of the BIMCO committee responsible for drafting the standard form of ship sale contract and co-author of the leading legal textbook on the sale and purchase of ships, Goldrein's "Ship Sale and Purchase" and contributed the chapter examining the standard form contracts for the sale and purchase of second-hand ships in the first edition of “Ship Building, Sale and Finance”, published by Informa Law Library in August 2015, Matt receives regular instructions on ship sale projects in all sectors of the maritime industry. Likewise as a member of BIMCO’s ship finance drafting committee, he is frequently instructed as lead maritime counsel on large and complex transactions involving the acquisition, financing and long-term employment of ships.
