Hannaford Turner was founded in 2016 by Matt Hannaford, Justin Turner, Owen McHugh and Keith Krut. With 7 experienced maritime lawyers from established City firms we opened our doors for business on 1 August 2016 from an office suite at 15 Old Bailey directly opposite the iconic Central Criminal Court building.
In 2018 we made two strategic lateral Partner hires - Michael Greville and Mark Needham. Michael, formerly Head of Litigation and then Managing Partner at Watson Farley & Williams, came to us in February 2018 to head our burgeoning dispute resolution practice and Mark, formerly a Director at Bargate Murray, joined us 6 months later to head HT’s superyacht and luxury asset group.
In February 2019 we increased our Partnership further with the recruitment of Paul Turner. Paul (who had previously worked with Matt and Owen both at Clyde & Co and at Clifford Chance) adds significant additional breadth and expertise to HT’s ship finance and projects offering both in the commercial shipping sector and the superyacht sector.
At the end of 2019, Adam Ramlugon joined the Hannaford Turner Partnership as co-head of HT's superyacht and luxury asset group, bringing with him a decade of experience in the sector and further bolstering the firm's offering in these areas and on 01 June 2020 we were delighted to welcome Grace Asemota in to the partnership. Grace joined us from Clyde & Co offering further depth to the firm's dispute resolution practice and many years of experience in international trade and commodities work.
With growth at both Partner and Associate level and an eye to the future, we took the decision in the summer of 2021, to move to 107 Cheapside in the heart of the City of London, a stone's throw away from the Bank of England and the Royal Exchange.
We operate in specialist markets where the challenges facing our clients are often complex and time-sensitive. To meet our clients’ needs we are a partner-led practice which ensures senior attention whenever this is required. Whether we are handling a large-scale construction project or a cross-border dispute, our specialist knowledge and market experience means that we are equipped to deliver solution based advice and support in a truly value-adding way.
At Hannaford Turner we are keenly aware that our most valuable assets are our people. Investing in people is not just about hiring the best, it’s about enabling every person to be the best that they can be and creating an environment of mutual respect and trust. We don’t have a formula for this and we don’t always get it right but it’s the key component to our working ethos and we see the positive results every day with our team members willing to go the extra mile to support their clients and their colleagues.
